I would like to welcome you to the Bengali lessons. I'm here to help you learn Bengali, by going step by step. All the lessons contain audio and are all offered for free. We will learn the alphabet together. We will also review some simple grammar rules, practice common phrases, and we will have fun memorizing many important vocabulary lists, and everything else that you see below.

Countries:	Bangladesh, India (mainly in West Bengal)
Speakers:	180 million (total: 230 million)
Official in:	Bangladesh, India (West Bengal, Tripura and Barak Valley) (comprising districts of south Assam- Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi)
Tips:	With nearly 300 million total speakers, Bengali is one of the most spoken languages (ranking sixth) in the world. The Bengali alphabet is an abugida, a script with letters for consonants, diacritics for vowels, and in which an "inherent" vowel is assumed if none is written.
